Amanda was born and raised in Independence, Kansas. In 1995, two weeks after graduating from high school, she packed up her truck and drove to Valdez, where she has lived ever since.

Her first summer in Valdez she began working for Stan Stephens Cruises and has been a year round employee since 1996. In 2007, she acquired her 100-Ton Masters License. She is now a tour boat captain for Stan Stephens Cruises, raising awareness of the resources of Prince William Sound including the majestic glaciers, abundant fish, and wildlife, as well as Alyeska’s Valdez Marine Terminal, oil tanker operations, and spill response capabilities.

In addition to the Council, Amanda also represents the City of Valdez on the Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation’s Board, is the chair of and represents commercial tourism on the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council’s Public Advisory Committee, and is on the Valdez Marine Safety Committee. She loves the outdoors, is well versed on the various species of whales that frequent Prince William Sound and is an avid birdwatcher in her free time.
